The giving of gifts in business is becoming a popular practice. Build outstanding relationships using thoughtful corporate gifts ranging from client appreciation to executive gifts and even retirement gifts. Gifts have a way of saying what words can’t. Business can sometimes be cold, so warm up the place.
There are many reasons for gift giving in business.
To get the attention of a potential client/prospect
The completion of an important job or project
The opening of a new office
Holiday Corporate gift giving
Thank you to a client
To market or promote your products or service
Business milestone, merger, restructuring or anniversary
A birth, wedding or retirement
To improve employee moral
An apology to a colleague
New mom or dad returning to work after a birth or an adoption
A gesture of goodwill
For the boss on Boss’s Day
Oooops we goofed
For an employee or client who is ill
To a client or employee who has had a death in their family
The number one rule is appropriateness. Be sure the gift you send communicates the message you are trying to send. The gift should be in proportion to the relationship. A corporate gift should not be so large that it feels like a bribe. Some companies limit the amount employees may spend on an executive within the company and from employee to employee. Each gift should be given with no expectations. Before giving any business gifts, review the guidelines related to your company’s corporate gift giving policy. In most cases these guidelines will establish the appropriate amount to spend on each type of gift and tell you how to avoid potential conflicts of interest. In most cases gifts should be generic.
All corporate gifts should be given with sincerity. That does not mean you can’t be creative. Make your company stand out by giving gifts throughout the year. Celebrate your successes and that of your employees. Consider using gift baskets as a part of your gift program. You would be e surprised to know what would look great in a gift basket.
The Christmas holiday time is the traditional time for the largest amount of corporate gift giving, but many corporations give gifts throughout the year for many of the reasons mentioned above. There are many opportunities to make your company stand out and make a statement not just the holidays!
